The name for this species of squid comes from its large, distinctive diamond-shaped fin which extends along the whole length of the body. Addition of DBS as locally available seafood increases food security in Vanuatu. Its abundance is not fully known but believed to be sufficient to exploit in commercial scale as well as that it is rich in taurine, which prevents cholesterol increase, and reduces the high blood pressure.
